Do You Take Medical Leave When You Are Sick

Well, I'll definitely take medical leave when I am sick, as I can't really work and I prefer to take more rest. But I have some colleagues who do not really like to take a day off, even the doctor asked them to do so. I don't know if they are inconsiderate or they are too workaholic, the virus can actually spread to the whole office, and hence the doctor advised them to take medical leave, yet they still refuse to do so, as there are work to do. I'm thinking if there are work to do urgently, they can actually work from home, as our work is all computer-based. I feel quite worried especially when the swine-flu is so popular, and yet people do not take medical leave when they are sick. lol Do you take medical leave when you are sick? Or is there any reason that you do not like to take day off? Isn't it faster to recover if you rest more when you are sick? rolleyes

Hi Kaka, Most of the times the doctor would advise the patients to take the medical fitness or medial leave in order to have the full bed rest and which would helps them to have the fast cured from the diseases, but many of the peoples would never mind and still need to work in the office when they are effected by the diseases, this is not a good practice because they may spread the infection to others too. So when the person would have the infections means he should take the proper treatment and would stay in the home till he is fully recovered from the diseases. Have a nice day. [Binthu]
Hi there, thanks for your response. Yeah, I don't understand why some people just ignore what doctor advised, and also ignore the health of other colleagues. rolleyes [kaka135]

My husband won't take a day off if he's sick because sick pay doesn't pay as much as his overtime does, and they'll replace his overtime with the sick time if he takes a day off, so we'll lose like $30 a week if he takes 1 day off. Plus he doesn't get a lot of sick time, and he doesn't want to waste it unless he desperately needs it. If he's really really sick he'll take a day off, but if he can make it through the day, he goes to work. [katsmeow1213]

definitely. if i am sick i will not go to work, even though i work in a small company and am missed if i am sick, its not worth it for your co-workers (they dont want to get sick) or for your health. [cher913]

It depends on. If I don't feel so sick, then I have to work. Sometimes it is not easy to take a day off. I may get a call even if I am out of the office. So I don't want to be waken up when I am sleeping even if I have the medical leave. If I really feel bad, then I will take a day off and go to see a doctor or go home to have a rest. if i am sick, i definitely wont go to work, coz it's not only you spread the virus to the whole office but also working while your still sick is not advisable, and it's really not good for your health also. but i also understand some people who would still go to work while they are sick, maybe because of some financial problem but there are also people whose need to be at work coz they take a major rule in the daily operation of the company... Hi Kaka, It depends on how serious of the illness. If it is a cold and my job allows it, I will continue to work as it will not affect too much. But if I have a headache, I surely will take medical leave as the brain did not work under such circumstance. Now the swine-flu is overwhelming that we need to take care of it. It is lucky that people around me have the high sense on that. If they caught a cold, they will wear the mask to avoid the virus to spead via the air. I know that some people did not take day off because they would not like their wages to be deducted and some of them will not like to take day off due to the job prohibition. I have stayed at home when I'm sick why not no sense of going into work sick then I could be watchingDigital 3-D movies For me, I will take medical leave if I am sick as I can not put much concentration on, which will affect the working efficiency there. And my company has a good back up system that I don't need to worry about my job on that. Have a nice day. [sasalove]

Oh yes if am employed I would definitely go on medical leave whenever am sick anyway, as long as we're regular employees, we will be paid. Though others don;t want to consume their sick leave and vacation leave as at the end of the year their employers refunded their unused medical and vacation leave. [bing28]

If your work has sick leave privileges, then it is your right to take a day off work and file for leave if you are really sick. This way your body can recuperate faster. I find it sad for minimum wage workers here in my country who do not have such privileges. If they don't come to work, they don't get paid. So even if they are sick, they cannot afford to not to come to work. [anne25penn]

I took medical leave once after experiencing a multiple fracture in a road accident. I feel, if the doctor says to avail a medical leave, he means that and that is obviously for a medical reason. So, it is better to avail the leave. Specially the sickness caused by virus, if medical leave is prescribed by doctor must be followed. [borhan]

Hello kaka135 this is checkmail and most of the time i don't fall sick but if got sick, naturally gets an sick leave or break to rest.I am concerned more about mine health than any work.Yeah it happened me at least for 2-3 times that i had to take some sick leaves and breaks from mine office work.Though i work as a partimer, some times get sick due to bad wether or pollution.Yeah the best way to recover from these types of sickness is to take ample rest, its just because of over working. [checkmail]

i always take medical when i get sick. i hate being sick so much! as i'm sure everyone does.. i don't wait till i start feeling really bad to take medical though like most everyone else in my family. they will wait till they get mad and then take medical but not me. i take it at the fist sigh of being sick and catch it before it gets worse. taking medical doesn't bother me and it just makes the recovery time faster. [sameroad]

It all depends on. In my opinion, I often tend to continue my word other than having a rest. For some common sickness, it is not very necessary to see a doctor or take medical leave. Perhaps you treat these kinds of people as workaholics, in fact, I am a memeber of them.I work in the white house gift shop White House collectibles and stuff you know so I cant really miss work. But as you have said above, if they don't take medical leave, the virus can actually spread to the whole office. At such time of emergency, this kind of action really do harm to the health of others. So, it is wiser to see a doctor and following the doctors' tips. Wish them recovery quickly! [getbrowser]

it really depends... if i am really really sick and i can't get up from the bed, then of course i will take sick leave... otherwise, i won't... i just don't see the need to use it unless if it is really necessary... and i can be really really stubborn on this matter... take care and have a nice day... [lingli_78]

I used to yes. I am no longer working and am on medical disability. I used to take all of the medical leave olocated to me and needed more. I took medical leave from work and was unable to come back when even that ran out. I was really very lucky in that very timely my company was giving early retirement packages and I was one who got one. I got a nice retirement lunch and a very nice and expensive retirement gift as well. Soon after that they started walking people out and no more early retirement offerings or lunches or gifts. It was very sad to hear about after I had been treated so well. [celticeagle]

Definitely yes, I'm still paid for taking a sick leave. Its my health thats in the line here. No one will ever force me to come to work. The law protect workers and sick leaves are one of them. Better to stay at home and have your medication than going to work and ended-up in the hospital. But make your you have your medical certificate once you reported for work. Our company doctor is also very sensitive for workers health. In a slight sign of fever or any sign that our co-workers are sick, the company doctor makes sure that he/she is well-taken care off. this includes giving him/her a sick leave pass. [Fulltank]

Yes, I probably will. It's our right and privilege to take medical leave. It is when we are sick that we can't function so well, and probably the end result would be inefficiency to do our job or worst we can't do any job. Sometimes if we don't take such leave,it would just worsen our illness and our recovery would be prolonged. [drewojeda]

Yes ofcourse I take. I feel health is more importan than work. If I am sick I try to get it cured in a day or two. But if the problem persist for more than 3 or 4 days then I need to go for sick leave. [joanahw]

I get sick alot, so I take alot of days off. But most of the time I have used up my paid sick days & have to just go to work otherwise I will not get paid much that week. But now that I hurt my back at work I have taken off 5 weeks from work. I still get paid so that is good, but I would rather be at work. [apricotrains]

Dear Kaka... I try to not taking medical leave when i was sick, bcoz when i sleeping at home more time i instead more feeling sick. So i try to go at office during sick after eat tablets etc. If i feeling more sick and not feeling mentaly fit then only i try to getting leave. I try to leave when i going for picnic or having some important work. Thnx, Rakesh Lalwani [rakeshlalwani]

I will not take medical leave when I am sick unless i can move myself. The little sick does not effect my work, I think job is very important for me and also for other people. [xinguang800]

i dont work .just graduated . but i used to take leaves .a lot of sick leaves from college .lol even thaugh i was not sick i used to take one just to spend time hanging out with friends :) i had a friendly who use to make me letter for leaves . i always used to use them to take a leave hehe [coolsudan]

Hi kaka! I always wanted to have a medical leave when I am sick. As for me, it is faster to recover when you rest rather than stay in the office. But policies in my company are getting worst now. You're not allowed to have medical leave (by resting at home) unless you will be hospitalized. I remembered that i got diarrhea one time and can't stand the heck of it. I was vomiting within all day i stayed in the office and its kinda annoying. I hate it when my boss wouldn't allow me to go home because of our new policy. The next day after, i went to the doctor and because of the fluids I lost on my body, i was advised to be hospitalized. Good thing that the doctor find it valid for me to be admitted. I am not not that critical though but still i had my rest, not at home but at the hospital. :) [yan_blue8]

it depend on.if i got a fever,it is necessary to take medical leave as you said the virus can actually spread to the whole office,on the other hand,it is very uncomfortable for us to work, and also the work won't be go away, healthy is more important than others.if only a little sick, i prefer to work, as when i leave one day, i would be very busy when i return back. good luck and have a nice day! I just go to work sick or not I mean what I'm I gonna do read French Cookbooks all day? [haiershen]

Acording the the physical and and moral person in some cases the symptomps in effect one persoe to other vary , moving can also make the pain desappear and try to move can help to dermine where does the evil and relieve the pain. The stadies have proved that can provide a physical effort as important when it is cold went when it is not.Practicing activity without forcing not icrease in any case symptopms of the desease and no not persiste, Consider the sport as a medecine if you have any problem, excercise will relieve you remember to properly assess your conditions of general form. I sell womens costumes for a living and that's that last thing you wanna look at all day when your sick. [laylil]

I don't take medical leave when I am sick. I can still work if I have a slight fever or cold or cough. Unless I am very, very sick and that never happens. If I work I can claim meal allowance. [JamesKYTan]

most of the time they will advise you to take some rest for awhile. i used to have a medical leave when i'm sick because for me health is more important than going to work. you could do your work when you are already alright and that's more important. [jayzelle]

It depends upon the sickness,if i cannot tolerate already i will get sickleave, specially if i cannot work anymore, but for headache, fever, pain! So it depends upon the sickness. But with the infection that can spread to your collegues and co-workers it should be.But if its already swine flu it should be take medical leave because the route of transfer id through airborne, si you need to isolate yourself so you cannot transfer the diseases. I'm only 17 so I love sick days I just set at home and game with some World of Warcraft Power Leveling [jemaries]

ya surly i will take medical leave when i feel sick... in my college there are no certain restriction like we should not take leave often... so i'll take leave and i will submit the medical form... [gokul4rahman]

It depends on what the illness is. If it's the flu, fever or a bad head cold, yes I tend to stay home. If it's a headache or a migraine, I don't handle it well and try to leave...never worked. Besides one of my last employers didn't care if you were on your deathbed, you HAD to be at work. He wasn't fair, but he was a good employer otherwise. [marysia66]

I always did, but then my JOB seldom allowed any OT. [robertjvan]

I definitely take medical leave...... I look out reasons to take medical leave... so if I am sick I would grab that opportunity... so I and my kids can be at home for one day..... Although I havent taken one for the last 6 months..... [kkanaka]

well i'm one of them doh in fact i don't want to take a medicine easily as my own antibody will do that for me, except serious illness, but when i sick i usually take a rest rather than take a medicine, that's me blush as long as i can fight the ill ... doh [maxilimian]

I have actually missed the last two days of work due to illness. I prefer to stay home at get rest so that when I go back I am 100% instead of trying to work while I am sick. I also work in a hospital so the encourage all of us to stay home if we are feeling sick so that we don't give the patients any new type of illness on top of what they already have. I think that it is very inconsiderate if a person knows that they are sick and contagious yet still show up to work so that they can share their illness with everyone else! [alyssakenzie]

Yes i take medical leave when i am in sick, most of times i wont produce medical certificate if any problem occurs then only i produce medical certificate. [kavis487]

If I am really sick, i do end up taking sick leaves and i am not interested in risking my health with the job.It would be better to heal myself and be 100% to take up anything. But also to add, i do use my sick leaves as my PTO ,as the sick leaves does not carry over to the next year.So whatever remaining, i plan them and utilise them and thus saving my vaccation hours.sometimes, i also work from home when i am sick but then those are rare instances. And its true, we can recover faster as we rest more and slow down. Thanks! [UltimateAsoka]

I don't go to work if I am really sick. My company has requested that we don't. Now there are a lot of people that will try to take advantage of this but they do want you to send a doctors excuse if you have to be out. Sometimes it is better to stay home and recover. It can be hard though if you are not paid for your leave. [JenInTN]

in fact, from the time i begin to work, i seldom get sick. so, i never asked for days off cause being sick. but if i were, maybe only when too serious, i think i will ask for it. after all, the health is very important. with sick health to work, maybe not only cant work well, but even will make more mistakes. wink [yolanda19191]

Hey kaka135 Obviously when I fall ill/sick I avail my sick leave as you are aware that doctors are frequently advised to take bed rest during sickness. Some employee take sick leave without any illness and producing fake sick cert which seems to be wrong or illegal. pkc3000 [pkc3000]

If I am given a Medical leave by the doctor, I will surely take it and rest and home. Now, not that I don't want to work, however staying home, I could also work from home, than going to the office and spreading any virus or bugs around. I would not want that when I recover, I have another colleague that gone into the same situation. Anyway, if the doctor finds that I am unfit to work, I should just stay home right.. more over, how often do we get this kind of certification from the doctor.. lol [cwong77]

I think companies send mixed signals to employees. On the one hand they say, "Oh please don't come to work if your sick. We can't afford to have you infecting the other employees." (This is true.) On the other hand most companies don't give out enough sick leave, if any, to their employees. Employees worry they'll use up the little sick leave they're given at which time they start losing wages. If the illness is severe and they're off for very long they also worry about losing their job. Noting I love more then to skip work and go to a Detroit Lions game.If I have to stay home sick I paint some of my Abstract Art.If they are lucky enough to still have a job when they get better, they are hit with a desk full of back work when they return. Let's face it, companies could care less if you're sick or not. They're just worried about the bottom line and how your illness is going to impact it. [nearpoint]

i do take leave when i am sick coz i'm worried that i might spread the germs to my officemates, and worst, to my boss. it's also a precautionary step to sanitize my telephone so that if anybody used it, they won't catch the disease. [yushen1008]
