If your boss pays you better income for you to work during the holiday, will you accept to it? Or you don't care about more money and you still want to have days off in the holiday?
[question posted by youless]
responses and comments:
It depends on what kind of holiday. If it is something big for my family or I have something planned for that holiday, then I will say no even if the boss is willing to pay me double the day rate. I prefer to spend the time with my family and not to break my promises to them. However, if I have nothing to do or if the project is indeed in need of serious help, I would not mind working on that day as long as the boss informs me earlier on. [daydreamer20]
It is reasonablehappy [youless]
Same boss and same work? No way! I prefer doing something else during the holidays. :) Cheers and happy Mylotting [positiveminded1977]
I think if I have nothing better to do and I would just sit at home during the holidays anyway, I would accept a higher pay and work on the holidays. I really don't mind at all since it's a bonus to get higher income! [wondericequeen]
You are wiselol [youless]
Hello youless. As to extra pay for extra work, I don't think that I can refuse it if we are asked to do so because only when it is a must will we be asked to do it. Well, I have done quite a lot of extra work for the school, but I have never asked the school for it, which is true indeed. I feel shy for it and then I forget it. Besides I think that it is ok on my side to work for free like doing some translation for the boss of our school. Enjoy your holidays, youless. [williamjisir]
Look, you are really nicewink [youless]
I would like to have adequate holidays with my family. We need quality time together. However if I need extra money I might consider it. [ronaldinu]
Perhaps it is a difficult decisionwink [youless]
:-),personally, i'd like to turn down it if the work is not necessarily needed to be done or in the other words, the request from my boss is just a noramal request but not a command. extra money paid for extra work in holidays may not seem that attractive for me unless i am struggling for money to survive. besides, it will make me feel disappointed and tired while working in holidays, which, more often than not, in turn results in inefficiency. happy new year, youless. [lourry]
Enjoy your New Year holidayhappy [youless]
Where I used to work apart from Christmas Day every single holiday had to be covered, and it was usually well paid too, volunteers were asked and if they didn't get enough volunteers your name was put into a hat, I used to dread working Christmas Eve and Boxing Day, sadly Christmas Eve is not considered a 'holiday' and it was just a normal working day, no extra, so no one wanted that. But the holidays were always popular because people needed the money. I would always volunteer to work all over Easter, but I would never volunteer for Boxing Day. I think in today's climate people need money more. [wolfie34]
When the economy goes worse, people may become much more practical. [youless]
uuhhhhh YES! i am willing to work even holiday as long as its a good paylol. [bombshell]
Good choicehappy [youless]
Hi youless, this really is a very good question, I think most people would say they would like the time off to celebrate the Holidays but with the way things are now many just might want to work to feed their families and help pay bills. [howard96h]
I think so. At least sacrificing it can have well paid and it's not bad for the current economy. [youless]
If I worked in an industry that offered premium pay for holiday shifts (like nursing perhaps) then I believe I would be willing to work for the extra pay and celebrate the actual holiday at a different time. It's the people you're with more than the date on the calendar that matters most to me, and that being the cast I'd be most happy to capitalize on that possibility. However, I have never had this opportunity really, so I just have the regular holiday with my family! [tentwo67]
You are very consideratehappy [youless]
I work for myself so whenever I work I get paid the same amount but my wife does work holidays because she gets paid 1½ times her normal rate... we have our holidays on a day before or a day after and use the extra money to celebrate. Great question Thanks happy Zelo happy [zeloguy]
Happy New Year to all of you out there and may MyLot be even that much better for us in the upcoming year!!! Thanks happy Zelo happy [zeloguy]
Hi youless! Well, if I am a working for a someone and he/she wants me to work during the holiday, I don't think I will accept it even if I will be paid double for that day. I would rather spend it with my husband and family. Being with them is priceless and valuable. Although, I have nothing against people who work in this time of the year because I am sure they have good reasons why. Take care always! Happy New Year! lovelots..faith210 [faith210]
Everybody is different. I know how important your family to youhappy [youless]
Hi Youless, Happy holidays!! In my case, I work for a union that says we will get premuim pay for 10 holidays a year. If there is a need for production during the holidays, we get paid the holiday rate and 1 1/2 times the rate for working the holiday. This is the most we get paid, which is quite a bit. Yes, I will work the holiday if needed. I may not like it but I will do it. I can always celebrate another day. If your job depends on you work or not, you may choose to work. With the economy these days, It is important to protect your source of income. Have a nice day.. [crazy_ol_lady]
That sounds so nicehappy [youless]
I don't particularly desire to work on the holidays unless it is doing something I enjoy such as writing. However, if I had a nine to five job that didn't involve anything important like taking care of someone I would expect to be paid extra. [cripfemme]
It is reasonablehappy [youless]
Christmas eve is very important to me and I have been with this company long enough that I insist on having it off even if i lose pay on it. I work 2nd shift and will go in on Christmas day or any other holiday but NOT Christmas eve. [sid556]
I can see the Christmas Eve is really quite important for you and I hope you had a good timehappy [youless]
hi youless, its depend on the situation...cheers..happy newyear [marketing07]
You are rightwink [youless]
I did work one holiday for about four hours but it was not with extra pay but I once worked a job that paid triple time on a holiday and if I could have worked one holiday with triple pay I would have done it. [ds6413]
I think I will work in a holiday if the paid is so welllol [youless]
YEs!! I wanted to work on Christmas day because it was time and a half but they did not need me. I worked today... New Years day. THis is a stat in my country. I got paid time and a half today [Monkeyrose]
It depends whether I have any plans in the holiday or not. If I have my own plans, then I wouldn't bother to go back to work regardless how much money I'll get. If I am just staying at home, nothing much to do, then I'll consider working. Sometimes i do work during holiday even I am not paid. lol [kaka135]
I am surprised that you work in the holiday but without no paid. You are very kind. [youless]
yes, I will do my work in the holiday if my boss give me a better salary. lol I need more money for better life. I have lots of time but few money.lol happy earning. happy mylotting. [leeapollo]
I hope you will earn more money from this yearhappy [youless]
i always work on the holidays specially when it falls off my day off, reason is it always offer a better pay every time..when it falls off my off it offer triple pay [angel_of_charm]
If the holiday is a Religious HolyDay I will not work it unless the occupation is a servial type of job in which the wellbeing of persons is otherwised jeopardized by my not being there. Necessities such as Nursing, Doctoring, Policing - other emergency care. [Modestah]
Thanks for your response. [youless]
When I was younger and single, I would gladly take the chance to earn more during the holidays. My family doesn't really make a big deal out of the holiday season anyway. But now that I have my own family, I most certainly would choose the days off so that I can spend time with them. I have already been busy trying to make money all year round, I think I deserve the rest and time to spend with them instead of work. [silverglint]
You are very responsible and you deserve the best [youless]
I think unless I have no money and can not make up my life, I would not choose to work in the holiday even if the income is better. I think holiday are days for me to relax myself from the heavy work and to get together with my friends and my family. I need my own spare time. [coly20032003]
I appreciate to your viewshappy [youless]
If it's not necessary i don't like working during the holiday despite more income. But sometimes you can't make a decision upon yourself. And now i am the leader for myself, you know i am free now.Everthing i do is finding a new job! [JummyTao]
I hope you will find a good job soon. [youless]
It all depends if my family had any plans. If I were living alone and my family was far away I couldn't go visit, then I would work on Christmas, if I could get there. But if my family had p0lans , then I wouldn't work. This is all mute because in my area the buses don't run on Christmas. [sarahruthbeth22]
On the major holidays, New Years day, Thanksgiving, anf Christmas, the buses don't run. [sarahruthbeth22]
Well.....depends upon how much extra he is going to pay you and also on the nature of the holiday...if it's a holiday that should be a 'holiday', then it'll be a holiday and no one could change it. [spitbombs]
Thanks for your response. [youless]
There are only a few days in the year when I will refuse to work. Those days are Christmas Day, Good Friday and Easter Sunday plus ANZAC Day which is one day in the ear when we commemorate and remember those who have died for our country in times of war. If possible I will try not to work on my partner's birthday and those of our young grandchildren or at least those who are close enough that we are able to visit for their birthday. In any event, we are not able to make deliveries on and of those 4 particular days I have listed as they are all public holidays. It might be that loads could be delivered the day after ANZAC Day but it will not be done by me as we start our ANZAC Day with a Dawn Service, followed a couple of hours later with the ANZAC Day March and Service then a luncheonette. It is a big day and also one where I will have a drink and that means I cannot drive in any case because I have to have ZERO blood alcohol reading. The other thing is that I am not paid anything other than penalty rates for working on those days as no matter what day or date I work, the payment for a trip is the same. As a truck driver most of my income comes as trip money which means I am paid a set amount for each trip I make, depending on the size of the load as well as the distance I travel. For example, if I take a B-Double (2 trailers) load to Sydney I get more than if I only have one trailer load also to Sydney. With the current global economic conditions, I think that a lot of people might be more willing to work on holidays than they have in the past because the money would be a bonus for them. On the other wide of the coin, a lot of companies will want to close down for the holidays so that they do not have to pay overtime penalty rates for working their employees. The exceptions to that of course are the essential services, i.e. jobs like hospitals, fire, ambulance and police etc because all of them have to be working 24 hours a day 365 days a year. [oldboy46]
We all need to do certain thing to keep our jobs and that is more so when the economy is bad and people are losing their jobs. It is something that we all have to weigh up and then as an individual decide whether spending the holiday say with our family or friends is more important than working and maybe keeping our job. [oldboy46]
