We persue academic education taking subjects that we are interested in. After graduation, when we start working, we may land on a job in a different direction. I was lucky enough to get into a career where my academic education that I persued was most helpful. Were you fortunate that way too ? Is your academic education helpful in your work ?

Well no i am in a job where the profile is not even close to the academics i pursued. I am sure even if i did lnad a job closer home, the actual job would have nothing to do with what i studied.. [vidasandi]
Yes, that happens to many quite often. [greenline]
My academic education is in no way of any use at the job that I currently have. I work as a retail stock clerk and I studied elementary education. However, I am currently home schooling my children so it does play a big role in that job and I am so proud of that. I can't imagine being a teacher in today's society and schools. [carolscash]
That's very good that you can be of big help to your children. That is invaluable ! [greenline]
Yes, it is. Actually, to be able to perform the work I'm doing now requires a professional license which I acquired through passing exams on subjects that I was taught in college. So yes, I consider myself pretty lucky that everything I have invested in college (time, money, etc.) were not wasted. Unfortunately, underemployment is quite common these days, especially in our country. People usually don't care if the jobs they land correspond to their level of educational attainment or skills acquired - they're too grateful to even have one. [nekonyanta]
That's wonderful. It is very good that all you have invested in your studies have become useful for your career ! [greenline]
Yes it does, i studied to be a secretary and i have worked as one since i graduated from college. Now i am not working as a secretary but i still get to do what i learned at school and it is very helpful in my work.Nice to see you, dear friend. [sweetie1026]
I am agree that there are few studies available which helps us during our pritical life.. during the JOB. Good to hear from you. :) Nice day! [prchaudhari]
I am doing JOB and I observed that, education is not that helpful when it comes to practical it is not much helpful. There are many subjects are present in a school, colleges and even during the post-graduation but very few of them we actually use it in our real life. That is true that therotical subjects helps us to understand other important things but I think that is not very important. In India I have heard that education is very good as compare to other countries but as per my knowledge I think other countries more foucus on practical and not therotical.. and thats why they are ahead of many things. Students prefer to go to aboard for future studies and that is the only reason. [prchaudhari]
Hi, when I first started work, it was in a job related to my academic qualifications. However there was a slow change in my career; and now I am in a profession that is totally different from what I was trained for. It was good experience though! happy [lazeebee]
Yes definitely all my learnings from college was very essential at my present job. This are learning that we can keep in our minds for a lifetime. Its the most greatest gift given to us by our parents and our professors. In case you cant use that on your present work , in the future youll be able to use that. Its kept in our minds. Be able to use it wisely as this are they key and weapons to your success and goals in life. [ralphcharleston]
What little academic education I have has very little to do with my work.I use what I learned on the job more. [sarahruthbeth22]
I too landed a career where my college degree was helpful. I took up Computer Science back in college and now, I'm working as a Software Developer. I found that everything they taught me back in college became useful in my work. In college, they taught us lots of things such as algorithms and other computer science concepts which are pretty much what we need for our jobs. [migsmartinez]
To learn we must think. Education allows us to think about things from many different aspects. I think this is useful in any job regardless of whether or not we use everything that we learned every day. [Lee_Rites]
