This is just a job. I have done the career path and I hated it! Too competative. This is just a job I can do with no long hours, no responsablility, no pressure,.... I had a heart attack in september of 2006 and do not want to go through that again. I take the easier road even though the pay sucks. [susaneverson]
Wow, I hope you're doing well, health wise. I agree with you, a career path is not for everyone. It's good to hear from someone who doesn't care to do it. I've had it pounded into me that you should always be working to get to the top of whatever job you have. I'm just trying to pay the bills! But, I guess that's considered a "bad attitude" by some. well at first my job was for money and security. I am a US Marine and i cam in because my gir was pregnant. I came in mostly for the benifits, get on my feet and move on but it has been almost 7 years now and im still in. I guess it turned into a career for me. [bushbj2002]
Sometimes that happens. That's a tough job you do and to be doing for 7 years in quite an accomplishment. [desertdarlene]
job is a part of my life which i try to make it nice , so i work in what i like and try to succeed in it and of course make a good income too . [lamiaa]
That is good, too. I was once told that some people try to be the best of whatever job they get. For example, if you were to be a receptionist then you would try to best the best receptionist that you can be. For me, mostly my job is to get by until I can get another one. [desertdarlene]
After working some 20 years on a career and most often ending up on the short end of the stick looking for another job I have started working for myself. For me it started as an employee for Worldcom (UUNET for those who know what that is) and after being laid of there and two subsequent jobs I decided to try and make it own my own. It's cary not having that "paycheck" security but it is certainly liberating to control your own destiny. Working for yourself can be the biggest career yet. And, you have more control of who is at the top of the ladder. [desertdarlene]
I am currently working myself up in a career. I have had previous jobs that were able to get me out of the rut (financially speaking), and now I think it's about time to focus on my career. I'm a highschool Science teacher and I've been teaching for 5 years now. I'm just new here in the U.S., though, but I intend to get into a PhD program while teaching because I have the intention to teach in a university. I was told that the pay is not that high, or is not synonymous to the level of education attained, but I chose to follow my career path, so that's where I'm headed to. I have enjoyed working odd jobs before, though, and I guess we just experience both ways and finally decide which one suits us better. Happy myLotting! [ag_abscruzmd]
Thanks for choosing mine as the "best response"! Truly appreciate it. [ag_abscruzmd]
My only job right now is to take care of my children. My husband has a career in truck driving and we are looking forward to sending me to trucking school soon. That way he can try to get me hired on at his job and we can work together. Once we reach one goal then we will try to move on to the second, and start our own trucking business. I like having a job so we can buy the things that we need and want, but I also want a career doing something that I love and enjoy while I am making that same money if not more. [Nikki_Gr]
That sounds great! I wish you good luck. It sounds like you'll like your new career. [desertdarlene]
Frankly speaking, I'm working just to make ends meet and make some savings for the future. I am not the career type of person since I am a mother and I focus on my family. But I do love my job and have no plans giving up yet. I am well compensated, too. [myklaire]
I know how that feels. Sometimes the ends won't meet, too. I feel that I'm not a career type person either. And, since I am getting older, it doesn't seem as important to me as it used to. But, that doesn't mean I don't try to do my best at whatever job I can do. [desertdarlene]
When I work its for extra money for the household. My husband's career is the main career at this time in our lives. [juls2me2]
Job is not only a way to earn money but also gain recognizition , after all we need money , but also need more money , so to get more money we have to rise in the ladder and to rise we need recognizition. [laltu86]
Hmmm. A lot of people like to remain behind the scenes and don't care if they are ever recognized. Not everyone can or wants to work in a job where they can move up. Some people don't have the education, skills, or ability to get those jobs. Or, they don't want them. And, not everyone cares a lot about money. Yes, you need money to survive. But, for someone like me, I really only need enough so that I can have what are considered the basics for my society, I don't care if I get much more than that. [desertdarlene]
I have spent the last three years working myself into a new career, I have all the qualifications, happiness as well as money is very important when I work. I have chosen childcare as my vocation in life but it is not easy and although I am fully qualified no one will give me a chance, because I am male. I want a job give me more than just money to buy things, we spend most of our lives at work so we should be happy in them. [wolfie34]
I have that same problem too, apparently references are NOT allowed to give you a bad reference but how is that policed? How do we know what is being said behind our back. I can't proof it but I'm pretty sure that the main reason I didn't get my dream job is because of the boss at the last school I worked in. I gave her 110% and she was a right b**ch, sorry but I know where you are coming from on this one! [wolfie34]
Currently, I'm working for the money until i find a career worth pursuing. I've only been working for 6 months after graduating but I feel like the profession I chose isn't for me. I'm still trying to figure out what I want to do so I could find some satisfaction in working other than earning a living. [dianne17k]
I'm kinda in the same situation right now. I'm not sure if I'm a good fit for the job that I do. But, I've often found that turning something I love to do into a job that I must do makes me not like doing it any longer. [desertdarlene]
