Have you ever worn your name badge outside of work by accident and have someone call you by your name when you did? I haven't had that done to me lately, but it has happened to me. I've almost worn my badge outside of work, but manage to catch it before I went to another place.

During my past work prior to homemaker. I worn my name badge even outside of work. I worn it for lunch and sometimes from work to home. It's ok, most of my colleague do that. [maehan]
i don't see anything wrong about people knowing us by face and name because of those name tags. i rather have the feeling that it will be an advantage. [trinidadvelasco]
i am inclined to believe that this has happened to a lot of us. name badges are given to us also when we attend seminars and conferences and they are written in big, bold letters. if somebody calls me by my nickname or by my full name because of it being pinned on my left side of the chest, i will smile in acknowledgement and say hi. i am obliged to do so. those name tags are supposed to be inviting others to recognize us by name and face. no, but I've not really had any jobs where I had to wear a name tag. I have called people by their name on their name tags a their jobs & they look at me like "HOW DO YOU KNOW MY NAME?!?!" Just amazes me - like - "DUHHH its on your chest!!!" [ElicBxn]
If I go anywhere or do anything that requires a name badge its the first thing to go when I walk out. I like to put badges in places that are inconspicous, and not noticeable. Mooch [oneandonemakesix]
Not badges though, i was wearing a shirt wherein my Big name was printed at the back. It really annoys me when people at my back try to call me with my name. lolx [lilyoungfella]
No, but my parents have. It was pretty funny because people were calling them by name and then they realized that they had their name tag on! Hahaha, it's the funniest thing I have seen, but that is okay, really. Have a nice day. Pablo [callarse1]
I know that's what I'm talking about. I was in a store one time and they said "thanks Darlene" and I said "How do you know my name" and then realized I had my tag on. It's pretty funny. [desertdarlene]
I didn't even think about until one day I was talking to a few people on the way to work. These are bus buddies and the only way we know each other is on the bus. We were talking about what we did at work and one of them called me by name. I was so shocked, they all kind of snickered until another pointed out that I was wearing my name tag. I have never worn it out since. lol Susan [susaneverson]
He he, that's funny. I used to never wear my badge at work a I work in a city facility and people like to complain about workers there all the time. But, lately, they've been making us wear them. So, there is still a chance that I would wear it outside of work. It's so funny. It's not like I mind people knowing my name, it's just funny when someone you never told your name says it out loud. [desertdarlene]
Yes, I have. When I use to work for a company called 'Allied Moulded Products Inc.". The rules there state you have to have your name tag on and visible at all times. That way if someone comes in and they don't have a badge on. They were surronded by management wanting to know why they are there. It is to ensure the safer of the workers. There have been many times I have forgotten to take my badge off. So I got in the habit of attaching it to my mirror in my vehicle. That way if it wasn't there I starte dlooking for it. I never had the problem of forgetting to remove it after that. [rusty2rusty]
I think I worked for a company that did the same thing, everyone had to have a badge. When I worked at least one place, I had to have a specific badge color to enter certain areas of the workplace. At one place, which was a military base, if you didn't have the right clearance, you will be questioned by the MPs. [desertdarlene]
I've done that before, I used to work in a mall so I'd go outside to smoke. I'd get random people saying "hello mememama (not really but my real name haha)" and I thought that's really weird, they must be stalking me, how nice! But then I'd realize I'm wearing my name tag and that I'm not that cool! [mememama]
I have been very lucky to never had to wear a name badge. We use to put our names on our uniforms. But they changed that awhile back. They figured that it could end up falling off and contaminating product. [dragonryder]
Oh, ya, I think we all have. But I never got in trouble normally someone pointed it out to me and I would quickly put it away. [liperoterachel]
Yep- I've done this- ANd I was like how did you know me- Then I laughed when I found out how- I was at the bank once and I was like don't you want to see my license- Nope- I see your badge- LOL I know longer need to wear a badge with my job so this hasn't happened in years- but it is a hoot! [KrisNY]
I know, isn't it funny! [desertdarlene]
