What Is Customer Service

Is it just my imagination or has the whole USA forgot how to have human interaction during a job search? Every where I turn and say, "I'm going to apply there. -->" I get a reply back saying, "All applications are done on our website." What is wrong with this picture? Am I just old fashioned? I like the idea of walking into a place and applying on the spot or at least get the application so that I can bring it back that same day, or next morning. I found out today that even TACO BELL now directs people away from walking inside to apply. You have to go to their website. They're crazy. It's a minimum wage job. Your thoughts?

It's so much easier for them to turn you down this way, anonymously, nice and easy! [dawnald]

A lot of the reason for companies doing their application online is a very simple and logical reason. They do not waste paper(going green), don't spend the money having the applications printed, and make it more convenient for managers to go through the applications. Instead of having stacks of applications everything is kept on computers for easier access as well as taking up less room. [WiseReptiles]
Verizon is the only one so far that had the courtesy to do so. [libby2009]

In this digital world some things are good and some are bad. Lack of personal touch is the bad thing. Look at all of us. We are happily interacting with each other here but do we do it in our real world? It is years since I have met with some members of my family but here it is on a daily basis almost! You will have to move with the tide and forget about those lovely moments that were!sad [allknowing]

I honestly think this is much easier. Especially with just the application part of the hiring process. You are saving leg work, and gas. I work from home and use my computer in every aspect of my work day. I also repair computers at home so my thoughts might be biased. I am fascinated with technology. The one thing that I do dislike is the way Wal-Mart has set up for the application process. Our Wal-Mart has one universal computer in the store and folks have to apply in the store on that computer. There is always a line of people waiting thier turn to use it. It would be more convenient for them if they could go to the website and apply in the comfort of their own home. Also with this kind of set up you have to wonder about the people behind you being able to look over your shoulder and see your private information. Not to mention feeling rushed because there are other people waiting for their turn at a minimum wage job. [Angelwhispers]
That's awful. At least I do have Internet at home. I still find it very daunting. I like human interaction. I found out that I can do the Wal-Mart application online but I couldn't navigate the site and to get to what I wanted. I'll try again tomorrow and see what happens. In my case, I have customer service experience in an office environment so I should be able to get the job with more pay. [libby2009]

i AGREE W/U, I THINK THAT'S RIDICULOUS. iF I WAS DOING THE HIRING I HAD RATHER DO IT IN PERSON THAN ONLINE. How do they decide who they want to interview, i wonder. Seems like that's alot of wasted time for someone. Computers are great & i enjoy mine but it shouldn't take the place of people & the jobs they could have. [ANTIQUELADY]
I hope u find one soon. I know they must be hard to come by. [ANTIQUELADY]

I think that this problem extends far beyond just the job search. It has become a widespread thing. Almost everything is done online now. They just changed my payroll at work to have check stubs viewed online versus paper statements. I can see how it would make it easier to go through applications submitted but it would be impossible to try and choose someone for a position that you never meet until they come in to start. I'm sure there would be an interview but still. Good luck with your job search. [JenInTN]
It's very difficult and I live away from a lot of stuff. I'm next to the hills. [libby2009]

Well my friend. In my view, customer service is is the satisfactory manner and behaviour rendered by a company/institution without harming the business and the interest of the customer. Have a nice day.happy [faridmadeabillion]
Did you even read the full discussion? Thanks [libby2009]

Hi Libby, Im afraid this is how its done now. It doesnt mean that I like it but I think that the only place where you cant apply online is for the government. THEY want to see you haha. People dont care anymore. Look at what type of service we get when we go to a store or call to complain about something. Its a shame. When companies think that employees and customers arent important anymore, we heading downhill I think. If I had a company and I wanted to hire people, Id want to see them, Id want to know WHO Im hiring. But I guess im like you, old fashioned!! [MagicalBubbles]
That is a true fact. You have to go through a corporate office in a different location to make complaints. What's up with that? [libby2009]

It is different nowadays to apply for any job since they would like to see your credentials before going to their office. They want to cut you some slack and woudl rather have you show up fully prepared and qualified. I would rather go that way instead of having you to walk-in and go out after a few minutes learning you are not qualified. [sublime03]
Is that reverse psychology? LOL [libby2009]

Hi libby! Like you--I don't like this--and I don't mind admitting that I'm old-fashioned. But, as I'm older, I guess I would be. :-) I have had several office manager jobs in the past, and as they were small businesses, many times I was also the person who did hiring and firing. I want to see the person during the application process. I want to know right then, whether that person is even capable of filling out the application on their own. On a computer, how do I know that person actually filled it out themselves? I can see, in certain businesses where it could be disruptive to have people walking in for apps, but companies did that for years, so there must be a way to still continue to do that. If I was someone applying and it was just a generic application that I was filling out, how is that company going to know that I'm not just one of many other applicants? I guess a resume would be the only way. I would be concerned that I just would end up in pile of online applications. The only advantages I can see are all on the company's side--not on the potential employee's. :-( Regardless--it should be company policy to at least acknowledge the receipt of the person's app and to thank he/she for their time. There's no good excuse not to show common courtesy--and people do remember that, whether companies realize it or not. Good luck with your search, my friend! [nyhollyjean]
I'm glad you see this exactly the same way as myself. They are robbing people of human interaction. Maybe I'm just old fashioned. [libby2009]

i have always heard the first impression is a lasting impression but this world has to go green. but with all the technology today it can get very hard to funtion in this world if you don't know this technology don't count on getting a job.if you don't have the nternet and have to go to the libary for 1 hour on the computer to do about 2 apps a day and it takes for ever and how often do the on-line apps get looked at? i perfer that they bring there apps in because i feel that eye contact is very inportant. so i still do thing the old fashion way because its my business and i like it that way. [craftyhomebody]
See, that's important to me as well. Thank you very much for your input. [libby2009]

rolleyes i know this computer for everything age drives me crazy also. dont they realise if you need a job bad enough, you may not even have a pc or be on linesilly stupid people hireing today. also, no wonder so many places hire people not fit for the job. since they dont even get to interview them enough for the job. i mean if their website is refusing even apps. then they could be missing out on a fantastic employee. [bunnybon7]
Yeah, and I'm starting to get really desperate here. Bills are starting to pile up. [libby2009]
