happy Hello all :)
In this life, and on here, I've noticed that most of us either work in some form or go to school.
Would you change jobs if you could? Why? And what would you rather be doing?
And if you're in school, do you like where you go and the main studies you've chosen? If not, where would you rather go to school and which studies would you choose to take instead? What job do you hope to have when you finish school?

It's funny that you may ask this question because this is something I think about daily. The truth is, I would change my job because I think I am more comfortable working for myself, making my own rules and not having to answer to anyone. Plus my stress level would be less. I work for the police department as a 911 operator and at times it can become very stressful so sometimes I take that stress home with me. Then it doesn't pay what I feel I need to be paid. If I could, which I want to do in the near future, I plan to go to school to finish a career as a hair stylist and a make up artist. I want to own my own salon. I don't want to work for anyone and I want to open and close when I choose and make my own money. Afterall, this was my first love anyway. I also go to college and it is taking the longest to accomplish anything in college. I'm motivated but I work 40hrs a week and I'm only able to take maybe 2 classes a semester so I feel like I'm not getting anywhere. If I could I probably would take a leave of absence from my job for at least a year but I just can't afford to do that. Why couldn't it be easier to do what I want to do!?! [deniser28]
happy Hello Deniser. I think many of us long to work for ourselves and do what we most love to earn a living. I can see that your job would be more loaded with stress than a lot of others! I admire, though, what you do to help others, to literally save lives. That said, perhaps it is time to take steps to pursue your dream :) One step at a time and they add up. Even though it feels right now that it is taking forever, it will happen, so keep strong about it :) I've known many who've done it against difficult odds, and you will, too. Best of wishes with it! Karen [PeacefulWmn9]
I would love to teach, but with the economy there are no jobs in this field. I am hoping to go back to school in January so I can get a Master's Degree in Psychology. I am hoping to attend the University of Phoenix online program. I want to be a school counselor for Special Education students. [randylovesdar]
Thank you, and yes, she always strives and reaches her goals. She and her husband had to young children (now teens) when she got her associates degree, and now they have a third child and she works full time, they both do. But she's on her 2nd year now, aiming for her BA :)) I am so proud of her! Karen [PeacefulWmn9]
hi karen madam, i do not prefer changing of jobs or schools,if it compulsory i will do,if not most of the people will not change the job and school,if we cannot accommodate in that job or school we have to change the job or school, have a nice day [yugasini]
happy Yes, no one changes if they enjoy the work and the pay, but so many in our country are unemployed right now. It is a huge problem here, and the president and the people are working on it, but so far to go yet! Thank you for responding, Karen [PeacefulWmn9]
I would not hesitate to change job if the new job pay more and the place is nice. Also the job have to be interesting to me though. In case of study it is not very easy to change school though. Sometime the credit does not get transferd well and sometime it is not easy to cope up with the new environment to learn easily and make new friends. I would prefer to finish my study in the same school. [sweetlady10]
happy Hello Sweetlady. I think most would grab the opportunity to change jobs to something they like better and which would pay more :)) Some schools, yes, do not accept credits from certain other schools...it all depends, for many others do. Life seems to be made of many difficult decisions! But we figure it out eventually, and yes, change is hard, so most resist it unless they think it would be worth the effort. And we all know, life is full of changes, always! Best wishes with it all. Karen [PeacefulWmn9]
Hi Karen, I am still studying, and as long as I live I wanna study. People say,"what the heck! you are still studying?", as if I am being real stupid and pathetic day by day. You know Karen, I've faced lots of problems in my academy, and I know what kind of difficulties a student can face. I always wanted to help them. So I've made a blog. www.selflearners.wordpress.com, where I try to help students in understanding general engineering concepts. I've qualified GRE/TOEFL as I had a dream to pursue PhD in electrical and computer engineering. But I never had sufficient funds even to initiate that. I lost energy, lost time and of course lost my girl friend. Money controls lots of things I know. But I also know, that the persons or things that are controlled by money don't stay for long. Due to my insane addiction to studies, I never managed to have sufficient financial status. But at least I am satisfied with this dream of mine that I've never abandoned. Take care [getbiswa2000]
happy I feel the same way :)) I fully intend to learn in one form or another until the day I leave this earth. Money...yes, it is a blessing and a curse. Too much depends on it...but the fact is, most of us need our own or someone else's to literally survive physically. Whatever we spend our own money on does not matter as long as it fulfills our basic needs. I'm sorry you lost so much over your passion for education, but if you are happy with that route, that is the important thing. Sooner or later, someone comes along that accepts us "as is." Karen [PeacefulWmn9]
Hello PeacefulWmn9 this is checkmail and would certainly prefer changing of jobs, as it would be beneficial for mine gowth as an individual.Yeah in schools also i changed mine Divisions due to chang ein subjects. And now also am doing partime jobs as an data entry operator, Typist jobs at some dif offices.Yeah i swap atleast five jobs till now and it was a better decision for me.Didn't got too much involved neighther have to suffer anything while doing mine job.Its an good practice to follow. [checkmail]
happy Hi Checkmail. Many people do as you've done. They change courses or jobs in order to get where they eventually need or want to be. And in that case, yes, it is a good practice...like stepping stones that help us move forward. Karen [PeacefulWmn9]
i am in college so i cannot talk about jobs................... bt no way, i would have never changed my school.............. because school was more to me than just an institution........ it was very close to my heart........... [goodday007]
happy Hi Goodday. I am glad you are happy at your school. We tend to stay with something dear to our heart, and in my opinion, when it matters to us that much, then staying is the right thing to do. I wish you well in your education, and also in whatever career path you choose to take afterward. Karen [PeacefulWmn9]
HI PeacefulWmn9 Actually it is very problematic for me to select anything regarding the jobs and schools. Your question is relating to the aim in life. What we want to be and to be as our want what the way we choose. But my problem is that I never write the essay named MY AIM IN LIFE. I am very trifle minded people and the desire to be some thing is changed frequently for me. When I see a fool ball match the I think why not I be a great foot ball player. So on with change of the context my aim changed .... Some time feel why not I be a great writer....scientist... social worker... politician even extremist too. When I feel some thing good in any subject my intention grow to be great personality on that regarding subjects. I don't know what I want to be but I know that I want to be the best of the best human of this world. I know it is not possible for me. But as I get the opportunity to express I take the change to express my heartily feelings regarding this matter. Am not I a crazy man? Happy Myloting. [reeyan]
happy Hello Reeyan. I don't see it as trivial when one changes what/who they wish to be. We do change, just as life and people around us also change. I've always been that way in the respect that there are many things I want to do and be, but for the thing at the core of me put there before birth that does not change the deeper part of my essence. I believe we all have that, and as long as we are true to that core, it doesn't matter how often we "change." Yes, many of us strive to be the best self that we can. Thank you for sharing that. Karen [PeacefulWmn9]
why not.. i would love to try things. after i graduated i landed on a job right away and there was no time for me to relax after college. it was a good thing. i'm still on my first job and if given a chance to improve and learn more by doing a different task, why not. i would love that. [MGjhaud]
happy Hi MG Exactly...why not? I would hate to remain static and forever unmoving. I am to curious and to anxious to learn and try new things. And growth and improvement are part of that package :) Karen [PeacefulWmn9]
I think that life is too short to be stuck in something we are not happy. What we do in life..or where we go to school..or whatever we find ourselves doing, should be in a certain point where we want ourselves to be. The problem with people is that they don't know where they want to be or what to be until it's too late, if you know what I mean. If you find yourself in a job you like and later on ain't happy about it, then move forward and find a job which can make you happy and don't waste any minute of your time in this world. I know this may seem like unrealistic to some, but it's all about ones perspective..how we view our lives. I just feel bad about people who work their butts off for money, and forget about what makes them truly happy. We do need to work and earn in this life, but there is a way to balance it. So for me, I would not hesitate to change jobs or school if I am not happy. I leave you with my father's words, "Live the life you love"..and i agree. [mypriv8link]
happy Hi 8. You're right. Life on earth is far too short to stick ourselves in a job, mode, or relationship in which we are not happy! There is so much variety, so many things to choose from in life, and I like that. I wish to try many things, even yet. People who choose to live stuck and unhappy, but must lie on their death bed with many regrets. I do not want to leave the earth with all those regrets. "Live the life you love." <<< I like that! Karen [PeacefulWmn9]
i love the industry im in. after i graduated, i landed on a job i chose first. but if given a chance to change my job, i would. i'm being paid well but if could be paid higher and do the same job or task, why not right? [thaMARKER]
happy Hello Marker. What industry are you in? I'm glad you enjoy the kind of work you do. It's such a big part of most people's lives that it would be a shame to have to work to survive when you didn't like what you did. And yes, as long as we love the field, I think most people want to get paid as highly as they can :) Karen [PeacefulWmn9]
Hello!I would change jobs,if the job is not unhappy.of course, the conversion work is also a standard ,that the selected work with his own pursuit of philosophy is not the same ,where no development work could not be able to improve their professional standards .Today's society, work and learning are mutually integration;if the study or the research itself is a paid work ,and that really is too good!I wish you happiness! [dong88]
happy Hi Dong :) We do have to keep up with our education, regardless of what field we work in, for everything moves and changes so quickly these days. We have to do likewise. And yes, if we get paid to increase our education by our employer, and many do, then that is even better! I wish you happiness, too. Karen [PeacefulWmn9]
Not my job but the company I am working...I still want to work on the field that I've chose so I won't change it. I love my job but I hate the working environment. I do think people there keep on just looking at my mistakes and tend to back bite me always... I really wanted to give up...but I can't. I really love my job...sad [joannaleed]
I hope I can change company or maybe I can change my department. As of now, I really hate them all. They've been gossiping about me...(or maybe I am just paranoid)..because that's what they did to me before. I don't want to hate them but I think I already hated them so badly that I just want to concentrate on my work and don't want to mingle or chat with them...sad [joannaleed]
Thaaaaank youuu for posting this. You must be reading my mind. Changing jobs has been the only thing I have been thinking about for the last year. I totally would change jobs, idealy go BACK to school but there are large financial roadblocks in the way.Not to mention the shaky recession situation that we are all in. There is an understood mentality out there that says "be grateful for your job, people are losing them. But that still doesn't make me any happier about what I am doing for a living. I would love to be a research psychologist or work with autistic children in a ABA role. Right now I am a fraud analyst for a bank in a call center and it is not so made of awesome. Thanks! [lynkshadow]
The online option is the best I think I actually will end up doing that. I here Athabasca University is a good choice. Cheers! [lynkshadow]
Hello Karen, I can still remember when I was still new in this kind of job that I have right now, I am so excited. Then years had passed, I got bored and think of something that really interests me. I passed my resume online here and there, but I was not hired.Maybe I lack the effort to process my resume.I even have my friend invite me to work abroad but I was too afraid to leave my family. Though I have tried to submit my resume too, and unluckily, they do not entertain international resumes unless you are there in their country. I used to regret the kind of studies I had proceed because I was thinking that I always wanted to be an accountant. Lately, I have accepted the fact that maybe this is my destiny and architecture is my field.I read a lot of forums and explore more about the knowledge that I have. I had researched for tutorials and familiarize them.I found out that I love what I am doing. And now I am inspired again to do my job. I have been grateful in whatsoever that somehow I have the work that meets my needs our needs. I am still lucky that God had given me this work. So for now I am enjoying my work and grateful. [ybonjoc]
happy It's so good to be happy in one's work, Yvon. It takes up a huge part of our lives, after all, and how bad I feel for those who feel stuck doing something they do not like just to have an income. While income is necessary, it's good to be on the lookout for or add to one's education to find something they do love. Thank you for sharing that :) karen [PeacefulWmn9]
hi Karen, I work for Workers Compensation and I am with them for almost 17 years now. I applied there in 1992 cause I needed a job but the atmosphere is not good there and I would rather work in the profession I studied for and be a librarian. That would be much more fun for me but my diploma is so old that every one who studied later than me would be much better equipped for practical work in a library. [book1962]
hi Karen, in fact I drag myself every day to work cause the problem is they measure people totally different. My one colleague will get away with any thing. She is a single mom and uses her son as excuses, even where its not necessary at all. She will at least have three weeks off now over Christmas and I cant even tell you when I had three weeks off last time. I only take two weeks off cause I wont be able to catch up with all the work. [book1962]
Hello my friend PeacefulWmn9 Ji, Well, so far I am concerned and my children, we will never do it. We both studied and completed our studies at our schools or colleges, where we took admissions till college contimued. They would never change. Wishing you a very happy Chrismas and New Year-2010. May God bless You and have a great time. [maygodblessu44]
