Would You Prefer To Be Paid A Salary Or An Hourly Wage

I have heard some ups and downs for being paid in either way. I know that most people being paid salary do not get overtime pay but the people getting paid by the hour lose money if they have to be out of work. I think I would prefer to be paid by the hour but I guess it would depend. I am paid by the hour and sometimes wonder if it would be better to be on salary. Which would you prefer and how are you getting paid now?

responses and comments:

I have earned by both, salary may sound like more but I found you are expected to work many more hours. Hourly you work an agreed upon number of hours and then get more if asked to work longer. [savypat]
It does sound like a lot but if you work overtime the way I sometimes do it wouldn't benefit me. Thanks for the response. [JenInTN]

I like hourly myself. The more you work, the more you get paid it's as simple as that. [ReVeRb1080]
That sounds like a great system Sharra. Where I am if you are paid by salary there is no compensation for overtime for the most part. I'm sure there are companies that are more fair with their employees about their time but for the most part once you agree on a salary..that's all you get. There is the upside that if you have to be off or work a short day you still get paid but for those that work a lot of overtime..it's sometimes not a good option to take. Thanks for your input. [JenInTN]

I prefer salary basis. That's more secure, and Company benefits can be better, depending on the Company ofcourse. [greenline]
Hi greenline! It is a matter of the company and what job you perform. Thanks for sharing. [JenInTN]

I have been paid both ways, and generally I find that hourly is a better deal. Once you are on a salary, the company generally seeks to maximize their investment in you by making you work a lot of what WOULD be overtime if you were on an hourly contract. The flipside of this is that most of the better paying jobs in the world are salaries rather than hourly. In fact, 'hourly' even has the connotation of being a poor grade of job. I think it all depends on what motivates you. Personally I like the idea of making more money when I have to work extra hours. [carcher777]
Oh..I agree. If I have to work overtime I definately want to be paid for it. I work for an hourly wage now and once had a friend within the company that was on salary. After taking the amount of hours he worked and dividing into his salary...I actually made a little more. [JenInTN]

It depends on what type of job you have. I once was employed by a company that gave me an hourly wage. Overtime was good! When I became salary they worked me like a dog! So, I would say that hourly wage is the way to go. [ElusiveButterfly]
That's no good at all. I can see why hourly pay would seem better to you. Thanks for responding. [JenInTN]

been there, done that jenn. u are better off getting paid by the hour. once they put you on a salary they expect u to do all the grunge work, plus ur on work etc. i would alot rather be paid by the hour. i have done it both ways. [ANTIQUELADY]
good benefits are like money in the bank. i'm glad for u. [ANTIQUELADY]

I would prefer to be paid hourly because I do know people who got many extra hours while on salary that were not paid, but on the other hand I have seen some managers abuse the salary system and leave work early because they can get away with that, and they do it all the time :(. There are certain other cases where salary is helpful like my boyfriend, he is a manager for the pizza stands in the local arena but he only gets work when there is an event, so since he got switched to hourly he has really been struggling when the events slow down and he doesn't have many work hours [spicysweetie21]
There are a lot of people that make it seem like salary is the way to go. I hate your b/f is having a rough time with the hourly thing. It works better for me because I have set hours I have to work. Thanks for the response. [JenInTN]

Hey..JenInTen...First of all happyHAPPY EASTER!!!!! I do not know about the U.S. and or State...but in Canada, also B.C., when on a Salary there are many perks/benefits; Employers contribute to your E.I. (U.I.) and your Canada Pension Plan, plus most companies offer medical and/or portion of your medical & lots offer dental or a portion thereof! A lot of the hourly wagers do not receive these benefits, nor do they accumulate sick days/nor holiday pay! That is not in all cases...but it is much better to be on salary here! FAntastic sun here today....but dreaded rain for all Easter weekend! Oh well! Have a good weekend...Cheers!happy [pergammano]
Happy Easter to you too my friend! Glad your having a sunny day! We had one here too. I guess it matters as to where you are and what type of job you do as to which can be better. It sounds like there are a lot of perks for the salary worker where you are. Thanks for the response and have a great weekend. [JenInTN]

It would depend on the job. If the job is guaranteed a minimum amount of hours, and the amount of hours can fluctuate, cannot go under that minimum amount, and I am paid for vacation time, too, then hourly, this way, if I work more, I get paid more. If I am working a set amount of hours per week and paid vacation and no overtime available, then a set weekly, or whatever, salary. [nanajanet]
Your right nanajanet. I think it does depend mostly on the job and it's requirements. Thanks for responding. [JenInTN]

I get paid by the hour but I don't get overtime. My pay check varies depending on how many days are in the paycycle. I think I would be ok to be paid a salary depending on how much it is. It would be nice to know exactly what your pay check will be everytime but I would miss that little extra during the time were I had more days during a pay cycle. Then again if my salary cause me to make more per pay check that I make now I would like a salary. [renemouche]
That's a good point. With a salary you do know exactly how much you make no matter the days you take off or the hours you work. With my job..hourly is better but I can see how it might benefit someone else. Thanks for responding. [JenInTN]

I received monthly payment. I am a teacher in secondary school. Still I do freelance job that make me received either hourly wage (ie : translator) or pay per work completed (received payment or half of it first, then get the job done) [prinzcy]
Thanks for the response. You have the best of both worlds. [JenInTN]

I have always been paid hourly, so I don't know if I would prefer salary or not. I guess it would have its advantages, but at the same time if you had to work more hours than normal you would really be getting paid less than an hourly person. [lilybug]
Hi lilybug! i have always been paid by the hour or job as well. There are aome situations where I think salary would be better but when I have to work overtime..I'm thinking hourly is the way to go. Thanks for responding. [JenInTN]

Hey Jen! When I was working I was paid both ways. I think that being on a salary probably is the better way. If you are a salaried worker you usually get holidays and benefits. If you are paid by the hour you ususally don't get paid for holidays or any paid time off. It would depend on the particular arrangement you have with your employer. [Opal26]
It does depend on who you work for and what you do. I guess I'm lucky where my job is concerned because I get paid by the hour and still get the benefits and paid vacations. It seems that everyone says that hourly employees often don't have these perks. If it were a toss up between overtime and benefits..I guess I would have to choose benefits at this point in my life...I still have the girls that are fairly young. Thanks for responding. [JenInTN]

By the hour. I am not to sure about overtime though. Most places with the exception of the job I had with a union company only gave time and a half after 50 hours in a week. Same with Sundays and Hoilday, straight pay. [muscles4me]
Oh my...I guess salary would have been better. It's time and a half over 40 hours here and doubletime on Sundays. I worked a holiday or two for double time and a half. I've never worked with a union before but I hear they are pretty good to their people. [JenInTN]

I prefer to be paid an hourly basis so that I can have another job for the rest of the day. In my situation, that's a good option. [aldztrust]
If it works for you that's all that really matters. Thanks for the response. [JenInTN]

I would much rather get an hourly wage. Salary sucks. I am retired. I do recall chosing salary one time when the choice was given me. I was sorry. I think you get shorted in the long run. And, doesn't salary sometimes mean you don't get raises and such that hourly workers do? I would not care for that. And, if you are doing work by the job I would have to go by how many hours and not just a given rate. [celticeagle]
I think there are a lot of companies that do take advantage of the salary employee. It is a shame that they do so. I think they are exempt to most raises because they have agreed to work for a certain amount. It would have to be an extremely high salary to have me consider it.Thanks for responding. [JenInTN]

I don't know if I have a preference but most of my working life I was almost always being paid by salary. I worked in an office enviroment and got paid by salary as most office do. The advantages to working by salary is if you miss some days of work or even hours of work, you still get paid for it.I seen that they have some programs that will tell you if your better by hour or salary its Apple Macintosh Software And depending on the company even if you miss work for a longer period they still pay you. At least that was the case with me a few times. I worked for the same company for 25 years so that probably had a lot to do with it. After about 10 years on the job I had to have surgery and missed work for 6 weeks. They paid me for the whole time because we didn't have insurance then, the company never offered it then. And then after working for them for 17 years I had to have another operation and that time I missed 10 weeks of work and again they paid me. I think I was lucky though because not all companies will do that. Now there are also some disadvantages to working by salary too. For example, when I worked overtime I didn't get paid for it. I didn't get to bank it either, but most companies will let you bank the time and take time off for it. But in the long run, for me, I got more money from them than the amount of overtime I put in over the 25 years I worked for them. So I don't know which I prefer but I am self employed now and only get paid if I work. [chrislotz]
That's great. I live in a town much like that. Maybe I'll give it a shot. Any pointers? [JenInTN]

Hmm, since I'm self-employed at the moment - it's neither hourly nor monthly salary; it's no work no money that straight forward? Haha!~lol [zweeb82]
Pray that I'll get a good buy & so I can update you guys with the good news, haha!~lol [zweeb82]

Salary, I would always go for salary because I know there could be days when i will not be working or I have to take leaves. Then I will not be paid for those days. While in sallary paid jobs, we get money for the leaves we get from the company! [sanuanu]
Strange, I could hardly think of any person who would like hourly payment! [sanuanu]

I've never known anyone who worked salary who didn't end up working more hours than they expected. If you like to work a lot of hours, and I know people who do, then salary can earn you more and make it easier to set a budget but I'd rather get paid by the hour. [andscifi]
Me too. I think that hourly is best for me. Thanks for the response. [JenInTN]

Hi Jen! I have thought about this and decided I would probably prefer being paid by the hour. Mu husband is on a salary and his boss is a workaolic who, because my husband is being paid a good salary package, expects to own him and to be available to work overtime whenever he sees fit. If you are paid by the hour, at least you receive money for each hour that you work and that's it. happy [paula27661]
Hi paula! I can see where a salary would cause an issue there. I wouldn't want them to think they could work me like a borrowed mule just because they pay me a rate. Thanks for responding. [JenInTN]

Many of my jobs have been hourly and I like it that way except if I can bid a job. I make more by bidding because if you bid a job at say 10 hours but you only took 8, you make an extra two hours for nothing. I am a contractor by the way. [benhilo]
Electrical, plumbing, painting, roofing, landscaping, drywall, carpentry and research. [benhilo]

with the way things have been with my hubby's work. I now wish he was on salary. Things have been so slow, he hardly works any hours. At least if he was salaried, we would KNOW he was gonna bring home a check! [alleigh]
I can see why you would wish that. I hope things pick up for him soon. Thanks for the response. [JenInTN]

Now I get my paid by salary and I have not received my payment as hourly wage.I think it is better to get my payment by salary. But if necessary I think it is ok for hourly wage. [susiehappy]
I'm gald your content with the salary. I work overtime during the winter so hourly is better for me. Thanks for responding. [JenInTN]

hhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii [peralapradeepkumar]
blinkconfusedhi [JenInTN]

I think hourly wage is better because I work 24 hours thrice a week, [mimiang]
Hourly is better for some people. It's better for me too. Thanks for the response. [JenInTN]

well for me i prefer an hourly wage why? it simply because the more hour you work the more money you recieved from your work. [xbeautyme_27x]
That's true indeed. Thanks for responding. [JenInTN]

I prefer an hourly wage, i want to do extra work for extra income not unlike if you are being paid monthly salary [mhil84]
That's a good point. Sometimes if we need a little extra cash..we can work some overtime whereas if you are on salary..you don't have that option. Thanks for the input. [JenInTN]

well in our band they pay us after every performance. so i guess i am used to it. when i go out to work i know that i will bring home money. i might get bored when i work for a salary that i will wait for a month for i am used to getting what i earned after the working hours. i dont know if i would be better in a salary basis that is if i get what you were asking. [se7enthbird]
Heyya se7enthbird! I understand what your saying. You get paid by the job and that is a lot quicker than either salary or hourly. Thanks for the response. [JenInTN]

I will always prefer monthly salary because it seem that we are earning good money and we can plan different thing when we have good amount of money in our hands. In hourly basis we will miss salary when we will take a leave or want to leave or office early due to some reasons. Even you will always get small amount so planning to save small amount is difficult rather than saving or managing complete monthly money. [rakesh284]
That makes a lot of sense. You can budget youer money easier with a larger amount. I get paid every two weeks and I find it easier to budget versus some who get paid every week. Thanks for responding. [JenInTN]

I would like an hourly wage because I would know how much money I would be making for sure. [gg4845]
I like hourly too. Salary has it's advantages but if you work overtime...hourly is better. Thanks for responding. [JenInTN]

I am used to a salary, the weekly wages are very rare in our place. The hourly wages are only for home helpers. For mature adults, I believe the monthly salary should be ok for family budgeting and management. Maybe we can look for opportunities to earn hourly wages to help a bit. [zhuhuifen46]
Hi friend! It is more common here for hourly wages. Some hourly wages are very good. I can see why some would choose salary though as it would help with budgeting their money better. Thanks for responding. [JenInTN]

I would prefer to be paid an hourly wage because as soon as you get switched over to salary, the company owns you and you end up having to come in on their time and at times when you don't usually work like evenings and weekends and holidays.... [angemac23]
That's true angemac! The company does stake rights to the salary worker. I would rather have my hourly wage too. Thanks for responding. [JenInTN]

I would have to say probaly salary. That way I know what I am getting each check and I am garunteed that amount when I get paid. I have been paid by Salary for the last 11 years now. I was paid hourly at my other jobs that I have had years ago. [emilie2300]
You too emilie! Happy Easter. [JenInTN]

humm i used to be both, with a salary at least you get paid if you miss work, and getting paid hourly i used to make a killing with over time.. but i think i perfer hourly [syankee525]
Me too syankee. I work a lot of overtime in the winter. It helps out a lot. I couldn't imagine working it and not being paid for it. Thanks for responding. [JenInTN]

Hi JenInTN - I guess it would depend on what job I had at the time. More importantly, how much I was being paid working there. If I was earning less than about $50,000 - $75,000 a year (which is most likely for me), I think I would prefer hourly pay. The main rason I would like this is because I would not want to be taken advantage of if I had a fixed salary. I would hate to be made to work excessive overtime without being compensated for it. I am sure most companies would not do this to their employees but many would. I would not want to be put into that situation. If I was earning a much bigger salary, over $75,000 for instance, I do not think it would be that much of an issue for me. Unfortunately, I do not think I will ever have to worry about that situation though! I have been paid salary before though and did not have a problem because my hours were pretty fixed even though I was not earning a huge amount of money.I hear that people who work at the white house are made to work crazy long hours but at least they get White House Collectibles out of the deal.I guess it just depends on the situation. Hope you have a wonderful weekend JenInTN! Jill [koalatbs]
I agree completely. It certainly does depend on the job and the pay rate. With definate hours..salary may be the best option...but if your going to work overtime..hourly is the way to go. It would also depend on the rate of pay..lol..I'm with you on the over 75,000...it wouldn't much matter then. Thanks for responding. [JenInTN]

well because i work in the music/entertainment side of things,i get paid on that night, i go to work, get paid then leave, so i get paid over the weekend, depending on how many nights i do, i work for myself so i have to keep the work coming in or i don't eat, that's the downside, if i don't work, i don';t eat, but i am steadily getting work now after the christmas hols, things are picking up again and i have quite a few bookings coming up so i am not qorrying about where my next lot os wages are coming from, sometimes i work on mondays but still get paid once i am done, the money is very good so it suits me fine [tattylashes]
When you get them vids up..let us know! I'd really like to see them. [JenInTN]

Ya...it is true that there are ups and downs for both payment method. Salary would be much better don't you think so. [Hvaniday1]
Hourly is better for me where I work. I work a lot of overtime in the winter so if I were on salary I would miss out on the extra money. I have compared the money I make to the money aome of my friends make on salary and I'm coming out a little better. I think it depends on the job and situation though. I can see why some people would rather have a salary. Thanks for the response. [JenInTN]

Hmm yea, like you said, it would depend on the conditions ans all, see if it's worth the money to be paid hourly and such...Just do your math first before deciding on whether it's the same the other way round if you're paid an hourly wage rather than a fixed salary... ^_^ [mira91]
Hi mira! I agree we should do the math before we agree to our means of payment. Thanks for responding. [JenInTN]

hourly.they can call you in whenever they want, and make you work way overtime for no extra.it would have to be an extremely high salary to have my time monopolized like that.salaried workers are sometimes the first to get cut at layoffs too. [scarlet_woman]
Hi scarlet_woman! There are a lot of people that get taken advantage of when they agree to a salary. I can see where salary may benefit some people but I'm with you..I'm thinkinng hourly is better for me. Thanks for the response. [JenInTN]

Dear friend, I do wish which one pays more if it is hourly I would opt that and if salary is better compared to my work then I may opt that. But I would prefer hourly work it can be done as per the hours I have to spend. May be salary is full time work mostly.happy [SHAMRACK]
The pay rate definately matters. Thanks for the response Shamrack! [JenInTN]

There are so many things that can sway that decision one way or the other. For instance, we have cut back hours where I work (I am hourly) but for the sake of fairness the salary people have taken a 20% cut, which comes out bout the same as the hourly people going to 32 hours instead of forty. The salary people still have to work 40 hours though. I am sure different companies handle it different ways, but at this point in time, where I work it really doesn't matter whether you are salary or hourly, we all have taken cuts. As a normal thing, the salary people do get paid for forty hours whether they work all of it or not, but my company only allows them to take two to four hours without having to use vacation hours, depending on what they are taking the time off for. I assume they do that so that no one abuses the privilege of getting paid for forty hours and only working twenty.I work for this place selling AC Milan Apparel and Tickets it would be nice to see a little more overtime. Most of our salary people work very few hours of overtime so that is not a big issue at my company. I just think it would all depend on the company and number of hours that I was required to work. God Bless! [change1life]
It would defiantely depend on how many hours were involved for me to decide..and of course the rate of pay. There are many factors to consider when thinking about this. It's good your company has implemented a program in which there is no abuse among the people that are paid salary. I don't know if my company enforces this type of thing or not. I would say there is some type of regulation. Thanks for the response. [JenInTN]

I rather be paid by the hour, but they don't do that in my country... too bad, I would love it if they did. I can still do overtime on a salary, but it gets really confusing when it's pay time, it always feels like something is missing... [x0xpinkyx0x]
Really? That is to bad you don't get the hourly option if you have to work overtime. I bet it could get really confusing. Thanks for responding. [JenInTN]

I think that it is usually better to be paid by the hours. When you are asked to worked over 40 hours, everyone loves to get time and a half. Mangers are asked to work salary many times because they always end up working lots of hours. I really prefer to be paid by the job, that really is where the money is.. [Jenniferp]
Thanks for the input. There are a lot of managers that are on a salary and yes they do end up working a lot of hours. Getting paid by the job can be very profitable provided you can keep them steady. [JenInTN]

I think it all depends how many hours I'd be working, and if the company offered overtime, and how much the salary would be. As well as what the position would be. If I would be continually working 50+hrs a week, I'd definitely ask to be hourly, cause I would want the overtime rate. Thats just me though. I need somethjing to compensate the time I'm not spending with my family. Currently i'm not being paid anything as i'm just staying at home with my kiddies. I do babysit occasionally, and get paid abotu 20 dollars/day. [acdc0805]
Oh yes..if I were working alot of overtime there would be no way I would want to be on salary. I want to be compensated for my time away too. It would have to be a good sized salary for me to agree to it plus working overtime. Thanks for the response. [JenInTN]

on an hourly wage your stuck on a earning amount, whe your employed your controled and will never earn as much as the employer. become the employer and your earning will be thebest they can be. on an hourly wage you never feel motivated and your neevr paid what you really work. Its a fact self employed people earn more than employed. [garyc09]
I agree that the self employed have a larger earning potential. Thanks for responding. [JenInTN]

I have tried both ways in my Country and for me before, it is better to be paid monthly or a salary basis... Here, I guess it is better if it is hourly since the more you work, the more you will earn! [checapricorn]
I think it depends on the job and for who you work for. For me..hourly is better but if I didn't work a lot of overtime..I would take a salary. It may be easier to budget a large amount of money at once versus a bit at a time. Thanks for responding. [JenInTN]

i have a friend who's husband gets salary...on rainy days he still gets paid..sometimes he can leave early if he's all done...but then there r the days where he has to work longer hours or more days and doesn't get the overtime pay...but he does make way more money overall. my hubby is hourly and doesn't get paid on rainy days but he does get overtime..but its still not as much as the salary workers. but i love my hubby working hourly i'd rather have him then all the money. [mgmagana]
Good for you. Money is not always everything. It does depend on the job and who you work for as to what is better. Thanks for the response. [JenInTN]

I don't know I've never been paid by the salary before so I wouldn't really know what it's like to get paid that way. I've been paid by the hour plenty of times but it's not very good when you don't get very much hours in a week or something like that. Either way money is money. [jambi462]
Your right! Money is money. I think for me hourly is better. It's the overtime in the winter that I would have to consider. Thanks for the response. [JenInTN]

i would prefer getting hourly wages, because i like getting money in regular intervals. in fact everybody likes to be paid hourly, dont they? [smartjack]
Well..there have been some that have responded that a salary is better for them. I think it depends on the job and how many hours you work. If you do overtime..hourly. If you have a set amount of hours..well..salary may be the best. Thanks for the response. [JenInTN]

hi yeah there are pros and cons in both the wayz that u can get paid-but on shore jobs u r better off being paid on hourly wages-bcoz u knw how many hours u have to work everyday-yes u r right that in such type of payment-u really lose when u r out of work.but i m a seaman, i sail for 4-6 months-there we are better off being paid per month coz one has to be standby for 24 hours. [amirev777]
I can understand why that would be better for you. I bet by sailing for that amount of time it really adds up too. Easy to save it because I wouldn't think you would really need it while at sea. Thanks for responding! [JenInTN]

yes hourly would make sense to me. i really like being paid by the hour. it makes me work harder [billgatexp]
Thanks for responding! [JenInTN]

I think if you have enough work and good hourly rate then wage is better. This way you can earn as much as you want. But in this time when people are loosing jobs salary is better. [arkasen]
That's a good point. The times can really influence what is better for the moment. Thanks for the response. [JenInTN]

Hi, FJenInTN! I am a full time mother. And I don't earn anything at the moment. It may help to read a book to gain more information on this or go to a site like a Product Search Directory. I would rather get paid by the hour plus commission. I want to see what my check will look like. And I would prefer to get paid every week.happy [cream97]
Hi cream! By the hour plus commission sounds good. Sometimes I would rather get paid by the week but I get paid every two. It's not to bad that way. Thanks for the response! [JenInTN]

Im going to say hourly. Because they really work you on salary no overtime pay. At least that is the experience with my husband. When he works salary they work him like a mule. He gets paid great bucks but works alot of hours. Being an hourly employee is different because Employers tend to be tight with the money and think twice if they want you to work overtime. [goldenapple951]
I see what you mean. I think that they do take advantage of salary employees sometimes. Thanks for responding. [JenInTN]

Hi! Jen! We are paid salary on the monthly basis and we have become used to it. Drawing salary on daily or weekly basis does not sound much attractive to me. It is always a great pleasure to get lot of currency notes together at the end of the month. We anxiously wait for the salary day. [dpk262006]
Yes, the large amount gives a kind of satisfaction and we can easily make our budget. [dpk262006]

Most curious. In Australia I have worked for salary (we call it ongoing employment, contract and as a casual. Working for a salary does not mean I work overtime and do not get paid. I think I should get paid more and work less so I can but more time into my world of warcraft ower leveling but I don't see that happening. If the employer does not pay me overtime or some form of compensation like time off in liew then I do not work overtime. I like the security of being securely employed in an ongoing basis with job security since there are rules about how such people can be made redundant. I have also worked as a casual who is paid by the hour and can be sacked without notice. Casual work gives no job security. If you are working on a fixed contract then at least you know how long you will have a job for, casuals are hire by the day. It gives the person the freedom to change jobs as they please but it also means that they can get no credit so they cannot take out loans etc. I suppose it you were working on a 5 year contract that might not be so bad but I much prefer being employed in an ongoing position that I know is secure and lets me plan my finances. I have worked a great deal of overtime in my life but I have never worked overtime without being paid and I would never do so. [sharra1]
I can see how the system you are used to would be better than a hourly paid job but a lot of employers in my area take advantage of the salary paid employee. They enlist them at a salary and work them as much as possible without the option of overtime. I think that is it depends on the job too as there are higher salaries for this or that position and the hours are pretty much set. There is a law here also that allows employers to hire and fie at will without cause that applies to both salary and hourly employees. Myabe I should wear a Womens Costumes into work they seem to get to work whatever hours they want around my office. This also gives the employee the right to leave without notice and fear of a bad reference. Thanks for responding. [JenInTN]

I am getting the same monthly salary no matter whether I do overtime or not. You can see how much overtime I did that year when you look into my personal account at work and I am only allowed to use that for extra days off or to leave work earlier than I normally do. I will just be happy when I can get some money to buy my Wallpaperturk. Its no option to get that paid too, unless overtime is definitely asked from the management department which only happened once in the 16 years I work there now. I also would like better to be paid per work hour but thats not going to happen. [book1962]
We take what we can sometimes. At least you can use some of those hours overtime towards time off. Thanks for responding. [JenInTN]

i like to be paid on hour-basis,i think it will make me feel happier , it is very challenging job to do :) so even it is less paid ,but if you accumulated all ,it is okay:) [rocketsky]
Thanks for responding rocketsky. It's better for me right now too. [JenInTN]

There are certain benefits to being paid a salary, but, all in all, I'd rather be paid hourly because you get overtime and time and a half when you work extra hours. Purrs, Catwoman=^..^= & Mija [kellyjeanne]
That's what I like about being paid hourly too. In the winter I work alot of overtime. Thanks for responding. [JenInTN]

I've been paid both and they both have down falls. I work overtime on my salary and didn't get a dime extra for the extra work i put in. I had to miss a day on salary pay, and i still got paid for it, which was good. I work over time on hourly, and i got extra for the work i put in... but if i missed a day.. i just lost all that over time i put in the week before. My husband actually has a pretty good deal on how he's paid. He's paid hourly, but he get's PTO, so when he misses a day he's still getting paid for it. Can't complain about that too much. [Jae2619]
Heyya Jae! Your right about them both having their ups and downs. I guess it depends on what your doing and how much you work. I have a certain amount of vacation days that I can pretty much take when I want to so it works out pretty good for me being paid hourly. I have worked some hourly jobs that were terrible though and thought salary might be the way to go..lol..Thanks for the response and take care. [JenInTN]

i would much rather get paid by an hourly age because i can work on my own schedule and i do not have to commit to any long term contracts or any sort of boss trying to yell at me for not coming in on time, whereas you can just clock in and out on your own time and whenever it best suits you [Jamesyo62]
Thanks for the response. Hourly does have it's benefits. [JenInTN]
